Following the wildfire storms of 2003 and 2007, faith leaders came together to be an inclusionary resource for emergency and disaster response. This was the beginning of the San Diego Interfaith Disaster Council (SDIDC).
We are an all-volunteer effort.
Since reactivating SDIDC in 2016, we’ve held two introductory trainings for houses of worship and taught over 60 faith leaders how to organize and begin to write an emergency plan for their facility, one held in La Mesa and one in Vista. We are designing a hands-on follow-up training that we will offer in November of this year. We also publish a regular newsletter of FEMA trainings and news from a number of sources, and maintain a website with valuable resources.
Our goal is to reach as many houses of worship as possible in San Diego County so that when a disaster does strike, they and their members will be prepared to withstand it, assist the community where possible, to free up community resources and first responders for others. Additional aims are to teach how to share house of worship resources as requested by the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services, and support houses of worship in encouraging their congregants to be prepared.
We invite you to support our work.
We respectfully ask you to make a contribution of any amount. Your donations will be used for the purpose of educating, motivating, and inspiring our faith leaders and their communities through a variety of means, including hosting ongoing trainings and providing community information identified by SDIDC. Your support is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, through our nonprofit fiscal agent, 4 Community Solutions (Tax ID 26-1722021).
Please help us to help our community’s houses of worship.
